My Story

Learn a little bit more about me…

My maiden name is Maura McMahon – “Maura” is Gaelic (an ancient Irish language) that translates into “Mary.” I was raised in a New York Irish Catholic family – full of priests, nuns, Catholic school, mass in the backyard, and mandatory confession. There was a lot of fear, shame, control and judgement.

After having my own kids, I stopped practicing Catholicism. The hypocrisy and manipulation I had experienced in the church was not an environment I was going to raise my kids in.

Instead, I chose a higher level of spirituality. I chose unconditional love, integrity and the truth of my own personal connection to God, Spirit, Source, the Divine, Creator, the Universe.

I believe life is about learning and growing.

When we remove fear, shame, control and judgement – we can step into compassion, understanding, healing and empowerment. We need to learn how to keep ourselves safe, and overcome the abuse of power that’s embedded in our families, institutions, systems and organizations.

As mothers, this begins with each one of us. As we learn, we teach it to our children – and we all create ripples of change together. None of us can do it alone.

Everything comes down to either love or fear.

My life lessons have included too many narcissistic relationships to count (family, business, personal) and supporting my kids through life threatening health crises as a result of having a narcissistic parent.

On my personal journey, I made a conscious decision to believe that life was not punishing me, but pushing me to grow and evolve. This is what I call a growth mindset.

Me and my kiddos up in the mountains.

I knew that I didn’t do anything to deserve the pain and trauma I had gone through. That realization made me want to really understand what was happening in my life and I got curious.

I decided to look at my challenges through a spiritual and personal growth lens, asking myself questions like: What is this teaching me?

That was where I really started to get it. Each challenge was showing me something within myself that I could shift and heal. Every time I faced a fear and leaned into the pain – I grew past it!

I evolved into deeper levels of consciously knowing and accepting myself, and not allowing narcissists to throw me off balance. As I healed and fully stepped into my own personal power, I was able to move beyond the narcissists in my life to become a happy entrepreneurial mom of two amazing humans!

Whoever you are and whatever you’re going through right now, know that there is always HOPE. As we travel this path of healing and releasing our own emotional traumas, we help our kids, our families and our communities do it too.

Like Brené Brown says, “Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy – the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

Don’t be shy – send me a note and let me know if you’re ready to join me on the journey! Peace, Maura

There is nothing as powerful as the love of a Mother.
